How is the mood set in chapter1?

II think the mood in chapter 1 is upsetting.I think this because in chapter it says, a sad city saddest of cities, a city so ruinously it had forgotten its name. Also another reason why I think the atmosphere is sad because later on in chapter 1 Haroun’s mum leaves Haroun and Rushdie at their house.

Rushdie gets furious and smashes all the clocks including Haroun clock. After Haroun’s gets angry and spits out “why tell story’s that isn’t true!”All of a sudden Rushdie takes Haroun to an adventure to the valley of K.

Another reason why the mood is sad is because on the first page it says that “depths of the city, beyond an old zone of ruined buildings that looked like broken hearts. Also some people call Rushdie a rude name which is called Shah of blah.

  1. Hello Alexander,

You have show some understanding of the events in chapter one and the mood, and I like the two quotations you have selected.

    Target:
Re-draft this, changing the names of the characters – you have confused the author, Rushdie, with Rashid.
